How can I reach Miss Bennett? The absolute best way to reach me is through my school email. I check my email regularly throughout the school day and also in the evenings. If you would like to come in to school to meet I would appreciate if we could set up a time either before or after school or during a time when the students are at a special. This way, I can best be prepared to discuss any questions or concerns you may have and use our time wisely.
s/ [email protected] p/ [email protected] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What is the grading scale in 3rd and 4th grade? A 100-94 B 93-86 C 85-76 D 75-68 F 67 and below ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What can my student do to raise their grade if they get a D or F on an in-class assignment or test? In-class Assignment: If a student receives a D or F on an in-class assignment, I will return it to them with a "Please Correct" note at the top of the page and give them the option to correct it. It must be corrected and returned to me by the next school day. It is their responsibility to remember to turn it back in. I will give 1/2 credit for each corrected answer to raise the grade to a maximum of a 72% or a C-.
Test: If a student receives a D or F on a test, I will return it to them with a "Test Redo" note at the top of the page and give them the option to correct it. It must be corrected and returned to me within two school days. It is their responsibility to remember to turn it back in. I will give 1/2 credit for each corrected answer to raise their grade. Students will also be allowed to use their books to correct a test, but must include the page number with the correct answer. A parent will be required to sign the "Test Redo" slip in order to receive any credit. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------When When should my student expect to have tests? Each week there will be a Spelling test that falls on the last day of the week, unless otherwise noted. Other subject area tests can take place any day of the week, but I do try my best to avoid having tests on Mondays. I also try to schedule tests in ways that the students do not get overwhelmed. Another place you can keep updated would be your student's planner in their binder. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------What What is my student's Monday Folder? Each student in our class has their own mailbox. This is where I will place any graded work or important announcements and forms that require your attention. Each student is responsible for checking their mailbox on Monday so that information gets home to you. Please check your student's take home folder every Monday. There may be times in which an important paper needs to be sent home right away for you to see, these papers will be put in your student's binder. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------What What about book orders? Book orders will be sent home about once a month. Your student will note the date it is to be returned (about one week later) on the front of the order form. I can only accept checks made out to Scholastic, no cash please! Our online code for ordering is: ND8LY. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Can Can we bring a birthday treat? Birthdays are important in our classroom. When it’s your child’s birthday, they may bring treats for the class and we will have a small party at the end of the day. This year we will have 9 students in our class. If your child has a summer birthday, you may choose to celebrate their half-birthday or you may choose another date. Please let me know the day you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday.
Please send in one treat and one drink choice. If your treat requires plates, silverware, cups, or napkins, please send those in too. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What is the "Mastery Club"? It's an enrichment piece that is optional and perfect for those students who like to go that extra mile. Students will be introduced to the Club after Labor Day and then it is solely up to them to participate. The summary page is in the clear sleeve of the Mastery Club Folder so you have access to the categories at all times.
If a student chooses to participate, they complete the activities at home (example: writes down the names of 15 mammals that they know along with the category number 52 at the top of the page with their name) or if they finish early on their classwork. Then the activity is turned in and whenever we have a chance (usually during dismissal) I will verbally “quiz” the student on their category. If they accomplish the task, they earn a star on the “Hall of Fame” wall. Any student who earns 20 stars by the end of the year get their name listed on the Mastery Club Hall of Fame and it stays there FOREVER! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What is the Classroom Economy? It is where students earn credits and debits, while maintaining a classroom store. Each week (pay period) students will earn money for their classroom job, completing work, being prepared for the day, along with many other things. Debits are given to students who break the classroom rules in our community of learners.
The money students earn will be used to purchase items from our classroom store. The classroom store is ultimately used to teach economic real world concepts in math, which include decision-making, supply and demand, and spending. Students can, of course, choose to save their money and purchase a more expensive item from the store at a later date. There will be a store each quarter, close to Report Card time. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What is Safe Environment Training? Students will be taught over the year about Internet safety, stranger danger, and ways to keep them safe. If you are interested in looking over this curriculum that’s provided by the Diocese, please let me know and I can share this information with you. All parents will need to complete this training in order to work in the classroom or chaperone a field trip. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What should I do if my student is sick? If your child is out sick, I will send a folder home with a sibling, relative, or person of your choice. If you would like to pick up the work before 3:00, please call or email me before 8:00 AM. Please also make sure to send in a note if your child is not feeling well, and should not participate in recess or P.E. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Can my student bring a water bottle & snack to school? I encourage students to bring a water bottle to school. Tip: Put their water bottle in a Ziploc baggie or sock to keep the desks clear of moisture. Students are welcome to bring in a snack to enjoy during the morning. Please keep the snacks simple. No candy or sweets, please.
